As a first-year Never at the School for Evil, Gertrude of Ravenswood fell in love with a prince at the School for Good, admiring him from across the moat that kept their schools apart. When she heard of the prince’s love for sweets, Gertrude devoted herself to the art of candy-making. Her masterpiece: a sugar ring topped with a heart of black licorice as pure and rich as her love. Before she could give her prince the ring, though, Gertrude was caught by the wolf guards and sentenced to the Doom Room. The ring was locked away and never seen again. Afterwards, Gertrude hardened her heart against love and turned her sweet-making talents to ensnare the kinds of princes she had once fallen for. Much of her work now dots the Endless Woods, but one stands above the rest: a house made of candy, that would eventually be visited by two children named… Hansel & Gretel.
